Manhatten Grill

April 17, 2012
Manhattan Grill
Ocean Springs, MS

The wonderful aroma of the food hit us as soon as we walked in!  There was no crowd, we were seated immediately and our waiter was prompt, attentive and very gregarious!

I ordered the Fried Crab Claws for an appetizer; Heidi and Vicky helped me get rid of those quick!  It was a very large serving, the claws were HUGE, and tasted delicious.  I had the Shrimp and Grits and all I can say is >OH MY FREAKIN GOSH..they were amazing! The shrimp's spicy flavor was off the chart fabulous and these were "the best grits I have ever had"!!!

Vicky had the Crab Cakes. They were scrumptious and loaded with crab meat (not bread)!

Heidi decided to have the Firecracker Shrimp. Well, that was a great choice - the shrimp came in their own little "boat" - a potato boat!  I could have drank the sauce on this dish straight up in a glass!

Now you have to try the desserts here. The Lemon Cake was really good but I think that it was so light that it was like not there.  However, the Caramel Cake is to die-for!  The sweet/salty combination is just too good. You've heard the saying before "it's better than sex", well this dessert will make you tingle for sure!

Great food, great service, but be ready to pay for it this place is spendy!

Mikey's on the Bayou

April 10, 2012
Mikey's on the Bayou
Ocean Springs, MS

Great location, right on Fort Bayou. The place was buzzing but not packed. We were waited on right away and our server was prompt and attentive.  We were not seated where we had a view and there seemed to be some sort of a leak that was puddling water on the floor :-(

I ordered the Seafood Platter and to say it was disappointing is an understatement!  Let's just say that overcooked will be the word of the day.  I think that this food had been re-heated to the point that it wasn't food anymore - I could have knocked you out with one of the hushpuppies!  Vicky decided on their signature(?) dish the Shrimp Bread. Well, guys she left a lot of that there for them to feed to the fishy out in Fort Bayou.  We both did like the salad, it was fresh and a generous size, but it alone could not make this a "good meal" kinda deal.

We will definitely NOT be going back to Mikey's!

Shaggy's Harbor Bar & Grill

April 3, 2012
Shaggy's Harbor Bar & Grill
Biloxi, MS

I am still in love with the location, and outside dining at this place!  Heidi and I went earlier in the day on this trip to Shaggy's - around 4:30 p.m.  There was no crowd, we were seated immediately and our waitress was prompt and attentive!

I ordered the Charbroiled oysters (yes again) for an appetizer, but this time Heidi helped me eat them...YUM!  I had the Southern BBQ Shrimp.  The spicy flavor of the shrimp was fabulous, but I didn't too much care for it being served over mashed potatoes (?) wasn't sure where they got the idea for that one.  Heidi decided to have the Half/Half Shrimp Oyster Po-Boy. Well, that was a great choice - the shrimp and oysters were spilling out of the bread!  Great food, good service this time, and fair pricing!

Glad that we gave them another chance, this visit was a good meal.

Shaggy's Harbor Bar & Grill

March 20, 2012
Shaggy's Harbor Bar & Grill
Biloxi, MS

The location is awesome, right on the beach in Biloxi. Yes, the place was packed - but you should expect that during spring break on a beach right?  The service here was absolutely horrible!  We waited for 45 minutes to be seated and after waiting another 45 minutes and never seeing our waitress, we moved to the bar to get a drink and see if we could order our food there. Well I can tell you that I hope that bartender finds a job he likes soon.  Just when we were about to ditch the place a lovely waitress and a bartender called in on his night off came to our rescue.  These two got our order in and made sure that we never went dry on our drinks.

I ordered the Charbroiled oysters for an appetizer and the Half-n-Half Shrimp/Oyster basket (I was feeling like and oyster kind of night - what can I say).  Vicky decided to have the Fried Green Tomatoes.  Well, guys the service might have been pitiful, but the food is fabulous!  Let's just say there were no left-overs to take home.

We will definitely give Shaggy's another chance to show that they can do good customer service - will have to wait and see.

Castaways Bar & Grill

March 13, 2012
Castaways Bar & Grill
Ocean Springs, MS

This is a relaxed, kick-backed kind of place.  The food is amazing and the alcohol selection great. The servers are excellent and very attentive - your glass won't be empty.  Tuesday nights are Prime Rib special night, so that is what we ordered. The rub on this prime rib was phenomenal, just awesomely-delicious. The portions were very large, both Vicky and I had left-overs to take home. It was a week night so there were not many people at the bar smoking, which made it just a very good meal experience.

We will definitely be back again.

Al Frescos

March 6, 2012
Al Frescos Italian Bistro
Ocean Spring, MS

First, this is a very pretty restaurant located in downtown Ocean Springs. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing - makes you lose track of time. We sat outside in the courtyard and the water & fire feature was beautiful.

Second, the service is amazing, the servers are very attentive. I ordered the Veal Piccata and Vicky had the Ribeye.  The homemade bread is served with olive oil and parmeasan cheese and was quite mouth-watering. The veal was delicious and the angel hair pasta was cooked to perfection.  Vicky said that her ribeye was cooked exactly the way she had requested and was very good.

Last, we ordered the Triamisu for dessert and were elated that it had a "melt-in-your-mouth" fabulous flavor!

We will definitely be back here again and again.
